Greetings from Guadeloupe! (Or as the locals say “Gwadloup”), the butterfly island, (l'île Papillon), where the sun is always shining, and the locals are always sipping on rum. I've been surviving on a diet of conch fricassée, and callaloo soup. I didn't know seafood could be this delicious or this spicy. (The rum helps to cool the spice.) I must tell you, the beaches here are quite lovely. I’ve discovered a small cove that is very special- there are no people, just turtles and me. I’ve become quite fond of this a particular turtle. Introverted at first, he’s warmed up to me. (Probably helps that I feed him) I’ve named him Fred, and he has become my companion on Guadeloupe... Please don’t be jealous...

There is a lot more to see than I originally thought. I've only explored a small fraction of the island and I want to see more. By the way, tomorrow, I am going to see the Volcano. So, speaking of hot spewing lava, there is no good way of saying this, so I’ll just come out with it. Darling, I won't be back in time for your birthday. I've extended my trip, because, well, let's face it, I'd rather be here than in Chicago with the awful weather, (and all that icky snow). I am sorry to disappoint you, but this is the first time in ages that  I’ve had to really truly relax. I know its selfish, but I hope you will understand. I promise we will celebrate your birthday when I return. . . Unless I decide to elope with Fred.
