"It was 1965. My father was an export manager. Like many others, his company bought and sold cacao for export. We lived in a lovely house in Cocody. On the weekends my brother and I would eagerly get in my father's car, and he and my mother would drive us to Les Tourelles. We were bursting with excitement by the time we arrived at Port Bouët. We had many frieneds there. Mostly French, and some Belgians and Germans. We would swim for hours. When we weren't in the pool, we would sit at the bar and the bar manager, Mr. Doulasso, would bring us a cold soda. At night we would change and then an orchestra would come and play music all night. My father taught me how to dance there. Those days were magical."
