Terre Haute Commuter
I was born just outside of Terre Haute, Indiana. In early 70’s, I was working as a salesman for an audio parts manufacturer. It was a good time to get into the business. We did well. Our company expanded and opened another factory just outside of St. Louis. After three years I was promoted to regional manager. Along with the promotion, came a lot of travel. Sometimes twice a week. Mostly between Terre Haute and St. Louis. Right around that time, a neat little airline, Terre Haute Commuter, began flights around the midwest. It was one of the many small, regional airlines that helped to fill the gap in air travel services. Their fleet consisted of a few Piper Navajo Chieftan’s. Spacious cabins, and decent legroom. A really fun plane to fly on. The pilots were great guys too. I could leave in the morning and be home for dinner. Once I was running late, and they actually held the plane for me. That kind of service made it really special. That whole experience got me hooked on flying, and eventually I got my pilot’s license. But that’s another story. . .
